Call of Duty’s annual "The Haunting" event goes live for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on October 19, bringing with it spooky limited-time game modes and Halloween-themed cosmetics. Details on this year’s Halloween event have been ghostly, as Raven Software kept a tight lid on this year’s horror-filled celebration.

The limited-time Warzone modes "Trick-Or-Trios" and "Zombie Royale" were added to the game, each bringing a unique spin on the traditional battle royale formula. Raven Software also added new Halloween-inspired points of interest to the map, and Saw’s Jigsaw and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre showed up for a limited time. The Call of Duty community was therefore speculating what this year's event would bring based on last year’s "The Haunting" event. However, a previously unconfirmed leak hinted at a Donnie Darko-themed cosmetic and Ghostface skin from Scream. Although Ghostface was confirmed ahead of the latest announcement, the developers did not previously confirm whether Frank the Bunny would be coming to Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.

Announced in the Call of Duty blog, Raven Software confirmed what’s to come during this year’s Halloween event. "The Haunting" officially goes live on October 19 and the developers are dropping a Scream-inspired Ghostface skin in the SCREAM Operator bundle for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. Also launching is the "Ghosts of Verdansk" game mode for Warzone, which is pegged as a “spiritual successor to Zombie Royale.” Players will have to battle both human and unhuman entities, as dead Operators become Ghosts that haunt remaining players. Black Ops Cold War is also getting new game modes, including the "Infected", "Prop Hunt Halloween", and "Scream Deathmatch" modes. To set the stage for these modes, Raven also unveiled the Halloween Nuketown map which transformed the famous map in time for trick-or-treaters.

The Haunting is also affecting Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies, bringing a new challenge to the undead mayhem. The "Hallows’ Eve Outbreak" requires players to survive for 10 minutes and every two minutes the difficulty increases. There are also a few Halloween updates for Zombies, including a chance for zombies to drop the Jack O’ Lantern item as a reward. And alongside Halloween tunes to create a haunting ambiance, "The Haunting" is adding several cosmetics such as the Frank the Bunny skin, as well as three additional Operator bundles dropping during Halloween week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will be transformed when The Haunting event goes live on October 19. The limited-time game modes, new terrifying cosmetics, and other features dropping this month show a lot of promise, especially for Black Ops Cold War. With Call of Duty: Vanguard releasing next month, it’s important to know Raven Software is still committed to the previous Call of Duty games.

Players will experience quite a freight in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, especially when the spooky game modes and scary vanity items finally drop. Having Frank the Bunny and Ghostface traversing Verdansk or Black Ops Cold War maps will likely send a shiver down other Operators’ spines.

Call of Duty: Warzone & Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The Haunting event will begin on October 19.
