It’s no surprise that the coding required to create today’s intricately detailed video games is incredibly complex. Oftentimes, if not composed carefully, the languages used to write a title’s software can create some unforeseen and unwanted consequences including, but not limited to, frame rate degradation, gameplay slowdown, or glitches that affect how the game fundamentally works. And with CD Projekt Red‘s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being one of the most ambitious and visually demanding titles to ever exist, it’s no wonder that the game has encountered some hang-ups prior to, and following its release.

With its vast open world, Witcher 3 gives fans of the action RPG franchise a slew of missions to take on, and as of right now, some of the adventures are experiencing difficulties. For instance, it’s being reported there’s a particular glitch preventing players from receiving experience points after finishing quests that are six levels higher than what is recommended.

Since quests in The Witcher 3 don’t change their attributes in order to adequately suit gamers’ current level or skill-set, it’s highly possible to unintentionally stumble across a few areas where a character might be over-leveled or under-leveled. Plus, since the game basically lets players make their own path by exploring without being tethered to a sequential set of missions, it’s really easy to lose track of oneself and come upon an environment that throws Geralt into the middle of a battle for which he’s not equipped.

In both of its forums, CD Projekt Red has recognized the issue, and have made claims that they’re looking into the matter. But with the current glitch rendering some experience points unobtainable, it’s probably best that gamers not complete those quests at all for the time being. In fact, until the problem’s fixed, players might simply be better off whiling away the hours experiencing all of the weird sex scenes Witcher 3 has to offer.

As mentioned before, Witcher 3 has run into several snags prior to the present glitch, each of which sent CD Projekt Red racing to provide patches. For example, a couple of weeks ago, one update involved rectifying the PlayStation 4 version’s flagging frame rate, while another cropped up a few days later that was needed to improve the Xbox One’s visuals.

Regardless of its momentary shortcomings, Witcher 3 has garnered generally positive reviews, and is rightfully being considered as a frontrunner for the game of the year. Plus, with CD Projekt Red diligently hunting and destroying any bugs that might sully Geralt’s ending in the franchise, it’s a surefire bet that the predicament will be put right sooner rather than later.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
